Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt 2008
Oct. 4th

On to the mazes. Almost all of them are worthy of your time, though quality varies. Here's my two cents, in roughly ascending order of awesomeness.

Lost Vegas in 3-D

Roll dem bones!

First off, the "3-D" glasses are only $1 dollar, so you might as well grab a pair, even though they didn't add loads to the experience. Either way, this maze was our least favorite. It's brightly lit, the peppy music is loud, and the scare factor is fairly low. Do this one first if you're intent on doing all of them.

Killer Klown Kollege

"Welcome Freshmen to the greatest killing on earth! Make your way through the not so prestigious halls of Clown U. Step right up and experience a wacky, horn-blowing deluge of messy make-up and mayhem. During your initiation into this fearsome Fraternity you may just laugh yourself to death!"

Killer Klowns that are not from outer space

This is another maze that didn't really blow us away, but there was some amusing off-color humor. Look for the "soft serve" dispenser. Eeeewww! Generally, I like mazes to go for the scary rather than the scary-funny, so I was less inclined to rate this one highly anyway.

Cornstalkers

This one's primarily an outdoor maze and it also didn't quite click with me. It's supposed to have a slight "Wizard of Oz" theme:

"We're not in Oz anymore. Dorothy has returned to Kansas, but she is not alone. Race through the cursed cornfield to escape the evil minions of the Wicked Witch. You can try to click your heels but the only way you're going home is stuffed with straw and impaled by the Cornstalkers."

Scarecrows are by definition scary

That whole Wizard of Oz thing was lost on me entirely. Plus I couldn't help but compare this to the absolutely bone-chilling cornfield section of Lake Compounce's spectacular Halloween mega-maze (perhaps the best single maze ever). But some of the scarecrows were pretty scary.

The Asylum and Club Blood

Here's how Knott's describes these two:

"In this home for the demented, the inmates pale in comparison to the bizarre behavior of the guards and doctors. Who is running this Asylum?"

"Welcome to Club Blood where the music is hypnotic and the cocktails are bloody. In the dark underbelly of the city, human victims are drained of their life to nourish the children of the night. Join the hypnotic dance macabre and explore the dark side of the undead."

Asylums are scary

The Asylum is definitely cool, if a bit generic. I have a hard time remembering details on this one, but I definitely screamed several times. Like a little girl, I should add. Best thing about it is that it leads right into a new maze, Club Blood.

Party Vampires!

There's a definite "Blade" vibe to this one, with all the hip vampire ambiance and the caged dancing vampire chicks. The room with the plastic-shrouded, IV-drained dead folks gave me the willies for sure. Got spooked hard several times.
