Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt 2008
Oct. 4th

The Slaughterhouse

"Folks from near and far come a-runnin' for Farmer Willy's world famous BBQ! Why, you can smell the sizzling meat all the way from the interstate! Venture through the slaughterhouse where Farmer Willy will auction you off to the highest bidder, tenderize you with his chainsaw, and grind you into a tasty meat treat. Bone appetite!"

This little piggy had roast beef...

If you like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" - and who doesn't? - this one will rank highly. Very ghoulish, lotsa hanging entrails to walk through, bloody grinders, all that good stuff. And the huckster outside was into it:

Step right this way...

Alien Annihilation

Aliens always rock

This one's the big sci-fi maze and it was cool, if only for boasting one of the best animatronic monsters in the Haunt; he's a big guy. Bunches of weird critters, nice sound effects, love the whole space ship deal. They offer to rent you a toy "mega-round-thrust repeater" rifle to carry through, making it a little more interactive, I guess, but we all chose not to.

The Labyrinth

"Take a journey through a forgotten forest, into the dark catacombs that lie beneath a ruined castle. The evil king has long since passed on but his cursed court still haunts the halls of he mysterious labyrinth. Don't lose your way as you vainly try to escape the menagerie of mythical monsters that roam the never-ending corridors."

Where's Jennifer Connelly, dang it?!

This one wasn't maybe the among the scariest, but it was definitely among the best-themed mazes. This little animated gremlin, pictured above, was just one of two non-human maze denizens, and the second one is extra-nifty. Really unique from start to finish, I dug it alot. And one member of the "cursed court" chased Shannon all the way out. Nice!

13 Axe Murder Manor

"A once grand Victorian mansion now lies condemned and fenced off from the eyes of civilization. The gruesome axe murders that once occurred on the grounds have left the house filled with angry spirits, designed to seek vengeance on the living."

Axe Murder? I'm there!

This sucker is a straight-up, hard-core, no fancy-pants b.s. haunted house maze, indoor and outdoor, and it was truly frightening. To be fair, it was one of the first we hit, so we were less practiced in getting jumped at, but boy, did I holler a lot. Rock and roll, baby; do not miss this one.

(A side note: this maze takes place in part of the Mystery Lodge, an attraction I had never done before, and we tried that out earlier in the afternoon. Nice use of the "Pepper's Ghost" illusion, and I appreciate that it is respectful of Native American heritage, but criminy, what a yawn...)
