Luna Park, Coney Island Trip Report July 2010
Nov. 7th, 2010

The first ride of the day was on the King of Coney. Very glad they've kept the "Astroland" sign up at the peak. Still one of the most brutal coasters ever, but exhilarating. Zamperla can bring in all the newfangled coasters it wants; nothing will top the Cyclone.

Then we headed into Luna Park proper, just across the street. An homage to one of the original Coney Island wonderlands in name only, it's still cool that they did use the name and dressed up some of the rides appropriately. (This second mini-park Zamperla's building? The "Scream Zone?" Try harder.)

Luna Park's major coaster is nothing more than a stock spinning Wild Mouse, but The Tickler name rules. If memory serves, that was also the name of one of the funhouse attractions at the original Steeplechase Park, whose iconic smiley face character is pictured in the logo. (Got that image tattooed on my right shoulder.)

Love the details on the car. Great job, Zamperla Rides!

This is one of those coasters that can deliver either a maelstrom of head-whipping twists (our first ride was spectacular), or a rather tepid journey (our second ride was kinda dull). Still, good fun.

It's a very nice compliment to the Cyclone. Wheeee!

Looking forward to hearing about the two coasters planned for the "Scream Zone."
