West Coast Bash 2012 - Six Flags Magic Mountain, Day One
February 26, 2012
Best. Themed. Round-Up. Ever. (I think Wonder Woman deserves a ride a bit mightier than a stock carny attraction - that's the feminist in me talking - but still, this rocks.)
And this is so much more fun and lively than the "Gotham City Grinder Gearworks," or whatever the Himalaya was once called.
A lot of love and care on display in this area, such a pleasure to see.
Outside the Green Lantern queue, this detail in the cement. Awesome.
I'll have a proper Ride Review up for this coaster soon, but let me say here that this thing freaks me out. In the several rides I've taken, I haven't gotten a single full spin. Not one. And it is still a major thrill. The sudden powerful dips and the uncontrolled rocking are really disorienting and head-messing. It's a short ride, and I'm not complaining. I couldn't take too much of this kind of motion. But in small doses, wow. Amazing. The restraints are fabulous, too.
At the Q&A session later that day, Tim Burkhart, Director of Maintenance and Engineering, told us a story about how he ended up, quite accidently, getting eleven spins in a single ride, at GL's media preview. Not fun at all, according to him. The very idea sickens me.
(There was also some questioning of the logic in building a green and black coaster right next to a green and black coaster. Personally, I like that.)
Didn't ride the Batster, but it is still a fine anchor for this zone.
Did ride that other green and black coaster, Riddler's Revenge.
ERT magic, people.
So happy to report that this stand-up Beemer is still running smooth, fast and ferocious. I can't say that the pleasure of standing while riding a roller coaster is a interesting as it once was, but I do love this ride for its loopy magnificence.
