Orlando 2011 Trip Report

I found this gal rather... a-peeling!

Good doggie!
All in all, I'd have to say that Busch Gardens Africa's Howl-O-Scream is indeed among the nation's best Halloween park events. I'm now most curious to see what sort of party BGE throws.
Sunday night, we were back at Universal Studios for HHN 21.

Can't believe it took me 21 years to make it to what is generally considered the East Coast's premier scarefest.

They really worked the "luck/gambling" theme, right down to the specialty "spade blade" weaponry these "Hellraiser"-types were wielding.
Because I've grown accustomed to the Hollywood event and some of its elaborate HHN facades, I was surprised to find that Florida doesn't get too crazy dressing up its maze exteriors.

However, their Nevermore maze had this surprisingly artful portal - so cool, no? The maze itself also ranked very highly that night. (With a gun to my head, I think I'd have to pick Universal's Nevermore over BGA's a-Poe-calypse, but they were both very strong.)

Sing it with me: "H.R. Bloodengutz... Who's your fiend when things get nuts, bitch!?" This was the most humor-infested maze and there were some great scares with the larfs. And the "Thanksgiving" scene had a very messed up, um, "main course" on the dinner table. Tasty!

The Thing was, on some levels, a very impressive maze, with tons of big-budget animatronics and great sets. It just never gelled for me the way the West Coast's Thing: Assimilation maze did.
