Hersheypark 2011 Trip Report
July 27, 2011

In hindsight, I regret not riding the Sidewinder. It had the new Vekoma restraints, and by many accounts, they make the Boomerangs way more tolerable.

But a Boomer's a Boomer and unless they're inverted, they mess with my innards, the only coaster type that does. (Why hanging the train from rails above doesn't bother me is a mystery.)

This one did look really elegant at night, I must admit.

One old favorite did not disappoint at all was Storm Runner.

I'll never tire of saying it: launched coasters make me slaphappy with joy. And this one, a full-on Rocket coaster with a diabolical course after the major hill, is freaking righteous.

It really lived up to its name on our first ride. The morning was cloudy and intermittently rainy and as we slid out of the station, water started falling, and not gently. Kept right up, until we hit the breaks. Running the storm, indeed. Cool!

Superb launch, awesome climb into the sky, killer drop.

And inversions, none of which are more super-awesome that the "Flying Snake Dive" (not pictured above). I'd forgotten how intense that was and boy, did it catch me off-guard. One of the best finales to any coaster anywhere. This remains my favorite coaster at Hersheypark. Well, maybe not my favorite...

Taking a break from the screaming in the afternoon, we rode the monorail, which is a very pleasant excursion.

Part of the trip takes you outside the park and offers a quick peek at the chocolate factory. (If there's Oompah-Loompahs in there, we didn't see any in the windows.)

Water towers are neat.

Another fine way to sit back and rest for awhile is on their train ride.
