A Disneyland Christmas Visit
January 22, 2012

A parade went by. This pretty baton-twirler led the march.

And then something wonderful happened: the Matterhorn broke down.

Sure, it didn't seem wonderful at that moment, but it worked out that way. First, a huge chunk of the line in front of us cleared out and we advanced half way around the mountain. Then, Disney cast members came by to let us know that the Matterhorn would be closed for an indefinite period and we were encouraged to go do something else and try again later.

I advised that we sit tight and wait a few more minutes, just in case. And we did. Again, helpful Disney guest relations types came by to urge us to move on. Still, we waited. Finally, maybe six, seven minutes after the ride closed, another cast member came by with those "We're Sorry Something Went Wrong" SuperFastPasses, good for up to six people, on ANY attraction, at ANY time (except for Nemo and something else, maybe World of Color?).

They gave us two, more than enough to cover our entire posse. So, what did we choose to do?

YEAH, BABY!

Holy crap, I love this ride so much.

We sped right past that two-hour-plus line and were in the dark over the gates in less than 10 minutes.

I do think the Dick Dale surf-rocked adaptation of Saint-Saëns' "The Aquarium" made for a terrific ride score, but the current on-ride music is also blissfully great. (I have it on my iPod and I listen to it a lot.)

Disneyland's Space Mountain is my favorite roller coaster. Period.
