Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Six Flags Great Adventure and Kings Dominion Trip Report
Sept. 6, 2010

Apollo's Chariot rocked my world when it opened 11 years ago (!), but it's now just a mild diversion compared to the other Beemers at BGW.

For today, the Bolliger & Mabillard machine that towers over all else is Griffon.

I dug Oblivion something fierce, but it's a one-trick pony (a rip-snorting, demonically-possessed pony, to be sure). So when they started building these super-sized Dive Machines, I was going crazy with desire to try one. Finally got the chance.

These "trains," they just CRAZEE! Gates closed, floors up.

Gates open, floors outta there! Dig twinkletoes on the far left.

The front row is the best, but with all the legroom, every row is pretty fine.

The lift hill is so steep, it's hard to hold your head up to look around. Better to just sit back and try to relax... Hah!

You do get a chance to see how high up y'are while you tool around that elevated turn; it's very high. And then they hold you right over the edge for a good five seconds... OMFG.

Buh-bye.

From a distance: Wait, wait... wait....

The language that came out of my mouth during this descent would make a sailor weep with disgust.

Then an Immelman loop. Then do it all over again. This is the second Immelman.

Utterly demented.

Here's a failed attempt at an arty night shot.

Oh, and there's the showstopping water finale, too!

Splash-tacular! I know these things cost a bundle, but can we please get one on the West Coast already?
