Kennywood 2011 Trip Report
August 14, 2011

Then lunch, and there's only one place for that: The Potato Patch. Just look at that heart-attack-in-a-bowl. Freshly cut and cooked potato wedges, drenched in melted cheese and bacon bits. It may have taken a few months off my life, but it was totally worth it.

I coudn't wait to get on The Exterminator again. This Spinning Mouse-In-A-Box dark ride/coaster is so much fun, it's insane.

Love the sculptural signage; still looks brand new. And the good stuff inside is in great shape, as well. While not every original effect may have been working (hard to say, given how fast you move), there's nothing glaringly absent. What a blast.

Thumbs up, fo' shizzle! It may be heresy to say so, but Exterminator could very well be my favorite ride at Kennywood. Not the scariest, nor the fastest, nor the most exciting, but I could ride it all day. It's a dark ride and a roller coaster, I mean, come on.

Certainly a ride that gives Exterminator a run for its money in the fun department is the newest coaster here, Sky Rocket, which we hit next.

Premier Rides delivered a relatively compact thriller that should be on any park's shopping list. A sweet launch? Check. Awesome vertical drop? Check. Overbanked turns and dynamite inversions? Check. Airtime hills? Check. No over-the-shoulder restraints? FREAKING CHECK.

I might quibble with the aesthetics of the train; it's kinda weird-looking to me. But I'm guessing that without a bunch of unnecessary panels and the like, they've kept the weight to a minimum, which is a plus when you want speed.

It almost looks like they took a test sled used at the factory, put that panel on the front train, and called it a day. Whatever. "Hauls ass" wins over "looks nice" every time.
